John A. Dominique (1893-1994)
A recognized artist of the California plein air school, John Dominique became deeply involved with art studies and painting in 1913 when he enrolled in the school of the Portland Art Association in Oregon. After moving to Northern California, he studied at the San Francisco Institute of Art and the Van Sloun School of Painting. Studies continued in Southern California at the Otis Art Institute and the Santa Barbara School of the Arts. To commemorate the Dominique’s 100th Birthday, Kerwin Galleries published the book, John A. Dominique: Poet of Landscape. The artist passed away in 1994, leaving behind as his legacy a large body of work in which his dynamic technique is exemplified in poetic evocations of the California and Oregon landscape.
